1. Have U-verse tech run cat-5e to each U-verse STB, then you/relative/friend can setup your coaxial wiring or rf repeaters as an 'alternative feed' coming from DVR STB.
2. Setup U-verse DVR STB
3. Setup IR Repeaters
4. Learn Remote Toggling

Once the above is done, a single AT&T U-verse DVR STB can be controlled and viewed by ALL in the house by simply toggling the TV's input and pointing the remote to the IR Transmitter.  If you have a programmable remote, all the easier.

STEP 1:   WIRE PER DIAGRAM, ELSE USE WIRELESS TV XCVR'S AS SHOWN IN NEXT DIAGRAM

IF YOUR TV DOESN'T HAVE A BUILT-IN TUNER - Utilize the TV tuner of a vcr, it should work just as well, else buy an RF decoder / converter.

.

STEP 2:  SETUP U-VERSE DVR STB

Set DVR STB to 4:3 Ratio (SD mode) this will allow the STB to output an RF Signal between 60-66 MHz (commonly used for on air channel 3 transmission).
.
.

STEP 3:  SETUP IR REPEATERS

Make sure IR Receiver is setup properly!  Position IR transmitter LED 1-2 inches to the left of the menu button of your DVR STB.  The IR detector is right in line with the other LEDS to the right.  (as shown below) To understand more about IR transmitters and receivers just take a look at this site.  http://www.rentron.com/PicBasic/infrared_object_detection.htm
